Building Control (Amendment) Regulations 2014

This month, the Royal Institute of Architects warned that the proposed removal of regulations relating to single houses and extensions could have disastrous effects on public safety and building standards in general. The news comes a year after the imposition of changes to the controversial regulations. The main concerns relate to defects insurance and possible redress in the event of building failures.

Make ‘Fix it First Time’ a Priority in Field Service

This is clearly a trending topic in the field service industry. Of 2,000 adults surveyed, fixing it first time proved to be the most sought after factors leading to satisfaction. The most surprising statistics from this study however relate to problems that could easily be solved with the help of workforce management solutions. It is stated that 49% of return visits were as a result of lack of appropriate equipment and 42% found that the technician did not process the necessary skill set to complete the job.

Do you need an O Licence?

This informative piece compiled by Commercial Fleet details what vehicles need operator licences and what type of licences are available. Any user of a vehicle over 3.5 tonnes (HQV’s) must hold an operator licence but exemptions do apply. For managers of large fleets especially, it is in their best interest to check regulations as penalties for non-compliance do apply and include impounding of the vehicle, prosecution and forfeiting of the licence.

London Office Construction rises by 24%

Deloitte has recently published findings from a survey stating that office construction in the capital rose by 24% in just 6 months, with 72 schemes under construction. The increase has been linked to growing occupier demand from both the technology and creative sectors, with technology and media already occupying 49% of office space. However, firms seeking to rent space should be prepared for increasing rents due to supply shortages caused by a lack of construction activity in the five years following the financial crisis.
